
(Patria) - BRICS leaders will hold an emergency video conference today to discuss the situation in the Middle East, including the Gaza Strip, according to the office of the South African president, the country currently chairing the bloc, TASS reported.
"BRICS leaders (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) will convene for an emergency virtual meeting, inviting leaders of the new BRICS countries (Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates)," the statement said.
Following introductory remarks by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, representatives of BRICS member states and invited countries "will make statements on behalf of their countries regarding the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza."
The meeting will also be attended by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Ramaphosa is scheduled to open the meeting with a speech, followed by statements from representatives of BRICS member states and invited countries regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Participants are expected to adopt a joint statement.
