G7 leaders agree to consider possibility of escorting ships through the Persian Gulf

(Patria) - Leaders of the G7 group of countries (the United States, Canada, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and France) have agreed to examine the possibility of providing escort for ships so they can freely navigate the Persian Gulf, according to a statement from the G7 presidency on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The statement was issued after French President Emmanuel Macron convened a telephone meeting with G7 leaders to discuss the US-Israeli war against Iran and its impact on rising energy prices.

"In this regard, a working group has been established to explore the possibility of escorting ships when appropriate security conditions are met, and this will also monitor approaches to shipping companies, transport companies and insurers," the statement said.
