(Patria) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected field training of soldiers at a large military operational base in the western part of the country on Wednesday and ordered increased readiness for war, state news agency KCNA reported on Thursday, Reuters reported.
The visit to the base, whose location was not determined, comes after the start of annual combined military exercises by US and South Korean forces on Monday in the south with twice the number of soldiers compared to last year.
Kim said the army must "dynamically introduce a new peak in intensifying war preparations in line with the demands of the prevailing situation," KCNA reports.
"Our army should constantly intensify actual war drills with the aim of rapidly improving its combat capabilities for perfect war readiness," Kim told the soldiers.
KCNA did not mention whether Kim directly addressed the US and South Korean military exercises.
He inspected troops who were conducting actual maneuvers in conditions simulating real war, KCNA stated.
