Lebanese state media: New Israeli attacks after Netanyahu's order

(Patria) - Lebanese state media reported on Saturday a series of Israeli attacks on at least four different locations in the south of the country, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his army to attack Hezbollah following alleged violations of the ceasefire, Al Arabiya reported last night.

The state-run National News Agency reported two rapid succession attacks in a town in the Bint Jbeil district, a second in the town of Tyre, and attacks on two other towns in the Nabatieh district.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it "attacked Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure used for military purposes throughout southern Lebanon" and that it "will continue to act decisively against threats".

Israel said yesterday that it would attack Hezbollah targets, further testing the fragile ceasefire with Lebanon, which US President Donald Trump recently said was extended for three weeks.

Four people were killed on Saturday in Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, the Lebanese state news agency reported, while the Israeli military said Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel, presenting the latest challenges to the fragile ceasefire.

The ceasefire agreed between Israel and Lebanon has led to a significant reduction in hostilities, but Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah have continued clashes in southern Lebanon, where Israel maintains soldiers in a self-declared buffer zone.

The Israeli military said on Saturday that it had hit loaded rocket launchers belonging to Hezbollah in three locations in southern Lebanon overnight and targeted several Hezbollah fighters in separate attacks.

Later that day, it was reported that it had also hit facilities used by Hezbollah's elite Radwan forces in southern Lebanon.

It is unclear whether the deaths reported by the state news agency are related to these Israeli attacks.

The Israeli military reiterated a warning to Lebanese residents not to approach the Litani River area in southern Lebanon while fighting Hezbollah.

It was reported that the Israeli military intercepted a "suspicious aerial target" within the area currently occupied by its forces and that Hezbollah fired two rockets at northern Israel, one of which was intercepted. There were no reports of casualties.

A Hezbollah MP in the Lebanese parliament stated on Friday that the US-brokered ceasefire in the war with Israel was meaningless, a day after it was extended for three weeks. The ceasefire was due to expire today.
