Lebanon: One killed, seven wounded in new Israeli strikes, civilian infrastructure targeted

(Patria) - Lebanon's Health Ministry said on Thursday that one person was killed and seven wounded in Israeli strikes in the south, while the Israeli army claimed it targeted Hezbollah and its allies, AFP reported.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, however, insisted that the Israeli strikes targeted "civilian facilities," condemning what he said was a violation of the ceasefire agreed last year.

"The repeated Israeli aggression comes as part of a systematic policy aimed at destroying productive infrastructure, hindering economic recovery, and undermining national stability under false security pretexts," Aoun said.

Israel has repeatedly bombed Lebanon despite the November ceasefire, which followed more than a year of hostilities with the Iran-backed group that culminated in two months of open war.

Lebanon's Health Ministry, which earlier said six people were wounded, reported that one person was killed in a strike in the eastern town of Shmistar.

One person was wounded in Bnaafoul, in the Saida district, and six in Ansar, in the Nabatieh district, the statement added.

An Israeli army statement said that "Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure was struck... in the Mazraat Sinai area in southern Lebanon." It also said that facilities used by "Green Without Borders," a non-governmental organization under U.S. sanctions, which Israel considers to have "operated under civilian cover to conceal Hezbollah's presence in the border area with Israel," were targeted.
