(Patria) - The entire Lebanon has been left without electricity after the last remaining production unit of the "Az-Zahrani" power plant, which was still on the grid, shut down due to a lack of fuel, the Lebanese electricity company announced.
Former advisor to the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Raja al-Ali, earlier told RIA Novosti that power plants in Lebanon could completely stop operating in the coming days due to a lack of fuel reserves in the country.
The problem of electricity supply in Lebanon dates back to the end of the civil war in 1990.
Before the economic crisis began in October 2019, residents in various cities and regions had electricity for 12 to 18 hours a day, and after the crisis started, supply was reduced to two to eight hours a day.
During periods when fuel supplies ran out in Lebanon, the country was completely without electricity for several weeks.
