Leonardo DiCaprio Almost Lost His Role in Titanic

(Patria) - Earlier this year, James Cameron revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio almost lost his role in Titanic. In 1998, DiCaprio played Jack Dawson in the epic romance film, where he starred alongside Kate Winslet, who portrayed his love interest Rose DeWitt Bukater.

Cameron stated in an interview with GQ that the actor almost lost the part because he refused to read lines with Winslet.

"He came in and thought it was another meeting where he'd meet Kate. I said, 'Okay, we'll just do a scene. Why don't you read lines with Kate?' He said, 'I read lines?' I said, 'Yes, I'm going to try to film a couple of lines.' The 23-year-old DiCaprio asked, 'You think I'm going to read lines?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'I'm not going to read lines.' I shook his hand and thanked him for coming," the famous director recalled.

Cameron's gesture confused the arrogant actor, who retorted, "Wait, if I don't read lines, I don't get the part? Just like that?"

The director said, "I'm not going to screw it up by making the wrong decision. You're either going to read lines or you're not going to get the part."

DiCaprio was quite negative, but the moment Cameron yelled "action," he transformed into Jack. That's when the director realized he was born for the role he envisioned. Although he was ready to let Leonardo go, he said it was hard to imagine anyone else acting in the film.

"It wouldn't have been the same without Leo or Kate," he concluded.
