The avalanche buried the mountaineers near the village of Pelvoux, located in the national park 25 kilometers west of the Italian border.
The prosecutor's office announced that the group consisted of 10 mountaineers and a guide. One person was rescued and transported to a hospital in Grenoble. They are in a "very serious condition".
A large search is underway for the seven missing people. 27 police officers and 30 firefighters are on the ground, and dogs are also searching for the missing individuals. Four helicopters are flying over the area.
