One person was killed and 14 were injured in a chain collision that occurred on the highway near Cologne on Christmas Eve, German police announced, reports the Patria News Agency.
A 51-year-old woman died in the accident, and 11 people were seriously injured. Traffic on the A4 highway was interrupted for more than nine hours. The accident happened when a 22-year-old man lost control of his vehicle, broke through the protective barrier, and entered the lane for oncoming traffic where he stopped.
Eyewitnesses state that the lights on his vehicle went out due to the impact, which is why approaching cars could not see it in time, causing a chain collision of seven cars.
