Cuba to join lawsuit against Israel for genocide

(Patria) - Cuba has announced it will join South Africa's lawsuit for genocide against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In accordance with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Cuba will exercise its right as a third state to present its interpretation of the convention, which it claims Israel has flagrantly violated in Gaza.

Cuba emphasized that Israel, protected by the complicity of the United States, has consistently ignored its obligations as an occupying power under the Geneva Convention.

It stated that genocide, apartheid, forced displacement, and collective punishment have no place in today's world and should not be tolerated by the international community.

With the latest ruling by the ICJ, Israel was ordered to immediately halt its operation in Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war.

In the attacks Israel has been carrying out on the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year, more than 37,400 Palestinians have been killed, while more than 85,000 people have been injured.
