Wavy Lines in the Fight Against Speeding

(Patria) - City authorities in the American town of Montgomery, Pennsylvania, have introduced wavy "undulating" lines on some streets in an attempt to slow down traffic.

Drivers entering Gray Lane for the first time are met with a very bizarre sight, as if the lanes were marked by someone drunk.

According to Montgomery city officials, the unusual patterns have proven to be the best solution to discourage speeding on some of the most critical streets, reports Oddity Central.

Police sources told local media that the "traffic calming measures" were introduced in response to numerous complaints that certain city streets were being used as if they were expressways.

"Our road safety officers and traffic engineers determined that this was the best course of action for this area to ensure the safety of local residents," the Montgomery Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Vice President of the Board of Supervisors, Annette Long, admitted that the sight looks like someone drew on the road "hastily," but defended the idea.

"There is actually a plan for what is happening here," Long said, adding that this is just the latest solution for speeding.

Speed bumps were previously considered, but that solution was abandoned due to the steep incline of the street.

Police radar and police cars at the end of the street were also options, but they could not be used at all times, so the wavy lines turned out to be the best alternative.

However, not all residents agree with this decision.

"I am honestly in shock. I thought it was a joke, but after reading the comments, it doesn't seem like a joke to me," was one of the comments on the police's social media post.

"Why zigzag lines? People will still go straight uphill and downhill, so I don't understand at all," wrote another user.

The city authorities also placed traffic cones and signs to help drivers get used to the "unconventional" lines, but they are still confused when passing through for the first time.
