Kremlin: Putin's interview with Tucker Carlson achieved Moscow's goal

(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin's interview with Tucker Carlson was not addressed to US authorities, but to a wide audience of people in the West, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

In an interview with TASS, he revealed what exactly the Kremlin considers the main result of this interview.

"In the first 24 hours, the interview was viewed over 150 million times on the X platform alone. But the broad public interest does not mean support," the Kremlin said.

"The most important thing is that our president is heard. If he is heard, then more people will ask themselves whether he is right or not. At least they will think."

Russia finds it difficult to counter the US "in terms of propaganda" because "the Anglo-Saxons own all the largest broadcasters, all the major newspapers in one way or another."

In these circumstances, the interview with Carlson is "a very good opportunity" to convey Moscow's position to people, Peskov said.

US authorities are "well aware of Putin's key messages" even without the interview, Peskov said.

"They are very much aware of what he thinks. It is not a question of knowledge, but a question of desire. The desire to do something to get onto the track of negotiations. We do not see such desire and political will (in the US) for now," he added.

Putin's interview with Tucker Carlson was released on February 9. A significant part of the two-hour conversation was devoted to the Ukrainian conflict, Russia's relations with the US, NATO and the West in general.

Earlier, the journalist said that he had tried to interview Putin a year earlier, but US authorities banned him from doing so, TASS reports.
