(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is traveling to Beijing in September for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II, and he could meet with his American counterpart Donald Trump if the US leader decides to travel to China at the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, TASS reported.
"We are preparing for the trip to Beijing," the spokesman said. "It is indeed on the head of state's agenda. But we have not heard that President Trump is also going to Beijing."
"If it happens that he is also there, it cannot be ruled out that the question will be raised whether it would be reasonable to hold a meeting," Peskov continued.
The Times reported that the leaders of the three victorious countries - Russia, China, and the United States - could meet at the celebration in China.
Peskov had previously told TASS that the Kremlin had no information on whether such a meeting was possible.
China will pompously celebrate the anniversary of the victory, and Putin has been invited to participate. It is not clear whether Trump will visit Beijing at the same time, but The Times stated that it is unlikely.
