Kremlin: BRICS is not discussing the creation of a common currency

(Patria) - BRICS is not discussing the creation of a common currency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, adding that the association is discussing the formation of joint investment platforms, TASS reported.

Commenting on US President Donald Trump's threats to impose tariffs on goods from BRICS member states if the alliance moves away from the dollar, Peskov said that "BRICS is not and is not discussing the creation of a common currency".

"BRICS is talking about creating new joint investment platforms that will enable investments in third countries, joint investments, and so on," he said at a briefing.

Peskov noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had spoken about this earlier.

"Obviously, experts should explain the BRICS plan to Mr. Trump in more detail," Peskov added.

BRICS was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, and South Africa joined in 2011.
On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates became full members, and on January 6 of this year, Indonesia joined the group.
