(Patria) - King Charles will strip his younger brother Andrew of royal titles and long-term residence on the Windsor estate, the palace announced on Thursday, AFP reported.
The announcement followed new outrage over accusations made against the 65-year-old by one of Jeffrey Epstein's main accusers, who denied the accusations.
"His Majesty has today initiated the formal process to remove Prince Andrew's style, titles and honours," it stated.
"Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor," it stated.
Andrew has also been told to vacate his long-term home on the sprawling Windsor Castle estate and will move to "alternative private accommodation".
"These admonishments are considered necessary, despite the fact that he continues to deny the accusations against him," the palace stated.
"Their Majesties wish to make it clear that their thoughts and greatest sympathy have been and remain with the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse," the palace stated.
This comes days after the publication of Virginia Giuffre's memoirs, in which the victim of American sex offender Epstein reiterated in shocking detail accusations that she had sexual relations with Andrew three times, including when she was only seventeen years old.
The prince, who denies everything, agreed to pay American and Australian citizen Giuffre millions of dollars in 2022 to end her civil lawsuit against him for sexual assault.
She took her own life in April, at the age of 41, and Epstein took his own life in 2019 in prison while awaiting trial on charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
