King Charles diagnosed with cancer

(Patria) - King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace announced.

They did not specify what type of cancer it is. It is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate, reports Index.hr.

Recall, the king spent three nights in hospital last month after undergoing a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.

Buckingham Palace stated that the king has today begun "regular treatments".

They added that he "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible".

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer," they noted.

The king travelled from Sandringham to London this morning to begin treatment, but is at home in London this evening.

Charles will postpone his public engagements, as advised by his doctors.

Other members of the royal family are expected to assist him in carrying out his duties.

Although he will pause his public appearances, the 75-year-old will continue to carry out his constitutional role as head of state.

Incidentally, Charles was last seen in public yesterday, at a service in Sandringham, where he waved to those gathered.

More than a week ago, he underwent prostate surgery at a private London hospital.

The king decided to go public about his prostate treatment, with the aim of encouraging more men to get prostate checks, the palace announced at the time.

Shortly after the news of the king's illness was announced, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke out.

"I wish His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt that he will be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will wish him the very best," Sunak said.
