End of Orban's Political Era: Peter Magyar Takes Office as Prime Minister of Hungary

(Patria) - Peter Magyar was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Hungary on Saturday, ending Viktor Orbán's 16-year rule.

Members of the new Hungarian parliament took their oaths at the inaugural session of the highest legislative body.

At the session, Hungarian President Tamas Suljok will address the MPs elected in the parliamentary elections on April 12, after which a new Speaker of Parliament will be elected, reports Anadolija.

"A new chapter begins today in Hungary," said Tisza's foreign affairs expert, future Foreign Minister Anita Orbán, in a post on the US-based social network X.

According to her post, thousands of people are gathering in Kossuth Square in Budapest, "following every shared moment."

"It is no coincidence that this day falls on Europe Day. The message is clear: Hungary's place is in Europe. Naturally, firmly, and without question. And with that comes responsibility. The real work begins today," Orbán stated.

The center-right Tisza party secured a convincing victory in the April elections, winning 141 out of 199 parliamentary seats and defeating former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fides.
