Kovačević and Anadolac's Verdict Overturned

The Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH has overturned the verdict sentencing Safet Kovačević to 18 months in prison and acquitting Muhamed Anadolac for crimes committed in Bihać and Cazin. The acquittal of Husein Begić has been upheld, BIRN reported, as carried by the Patria news agency.

The Cantonal Court in Bihać in July last year sentenced Kovačević to 18 months in prison for mistreating prisoners of war in 1995, while acquitting Begić and Anadolac.

Ilhana Tahmaz-Jamak, spokesperson for the Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH, stated that a decision was made to retry Kovačević and Anadolac before the Cantonal Court in Bihać.

According to the indictment, Kovačević and Anadolac, along with other members of the Military Police, beat prisoners with police batons, rifle butts, hands, and feet during a ride on March 11, 1995.

As stated, Begić was the platoon commander in the Second Company of the Fifth Battalion of the Military Police.
