Kovačević appeals: Let Sarajevo citizens not punish the abusers, leave that to the competent authorities

The case of the suicide of 14-year-old Mahir is not the only case in BiH related to peer violence.

This is just one in a series of proofs that things in BiH society are not functioning as they should, warned for the agency Patria professor at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies in Sarajevo, Goran Kovačević.

It is devastating, if true, said Kovačević, all that we can read in various media about what all happened to the boy.

He wonders who are the people who raised monsters of this caliber.

- It is impossible to remain indifferent to such events, not to ask the question of how all this came about. My opinion is that society as a whole has failed.

Will we, from case to case, create a media witch hunt, from Denis to Mahir. The same problem has existed all the time, without anyone taking any formal action – says Kovačević.

He appeals to the legislative authority to identify all manifestations of the phenomenon called juvenile delinquency. He appeals to parents to take care of what their children are doing.

Would you not be ashamed, says Kovačević, if your neglect and name were linked to someone else's tragedy?

Therefore, he believes that society must not allow the perpetrators, instigators, audience, and all those who in some way entertained themselves in the entire tragic situation, to remain unknown.

- To the citizens who sympathize with the family, who experience the situation emotionally, I say do not undertake any activity against the abusers, leave that to the competent authorities, but insist that those same authorities be fair in determining an adequate punishment for these people, and I publicly condemn the parents of the perpetrators.

I appeal to the authorities in BiH to sanction „this school“. This is the territory of BiH, not the territory of some other country. A citizen of BiH was harmed, not an „international factor“.

This is a disgrace for the state, for society, a disgrace for this city. Surely we have not sunk to the point where gangs are the measure of things – believes Kovačević. He believes that things should start being measured by the length of the sentence, writes NAP.
