SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Americans voted yesterday for 435 representatives, 35 senators, and 36 governors. Democrats took control of the House of Representatives, while Republicans strengthened their control of the Senate.

Regarding the significance of the US elections for BiH, it should be noted that key senators and congressmen dealing with BiH have won new mandates.

What does this mean for US policy towards BiH? Some Bosnian politicians have long been announcing a major shift in US policy towards BiH. Apparently, this shift will not happen for several reasons, writes Voice of America.

Key senators and congressmen dealing with BiH have won new mandates.

Republican Roger Wicker has won a new six-year term as senator for Mississippi. He recently called for more sanctions against corrupt BiH politicians like Nikola Špirić, who ended up on the US blacklist.

Republican Scott Perry has won a new two-year term as a representative for a district in Pennsylvania.

Democrat Chris Murphy also won a new six-year term as senator for Connecticut. He is a member of the Friends of BiH bloc, which consists of 22 senators and representatives.

The differences between Democrats and Republicans regarding the Balkans are small. Republicans advocate somewhat more strongly for the US presence in that area.

Republican Bob Dole once called for intervention in BiH significantly before Democrat Bill Clinton, while the Obama administration somewhat neglected Eastern Europe, focusing more on the Far East.

However, the US stance towards BiH has essentially not changed since the 90s and is unlikely to change now.
