Congress Confirms Donald Trump's Election Victory

(Patria) - The US Congress has confirmed the election of President-elect Donald Trump, reports Voice of America (VOA).

After the Electoral College results for 50 states and Washington were confirmed, Congress certified the election results by acclamation, the victory of Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance.

"The presiding officer declares the session adjourned," announced the presiding officer, US Vice President Kamala Harris, who was defeated in the election race by President-elect Trump.

Trump won 312 electoral votes in the election race, while Harris secured 226.

The results were confirmed by both houses of Congress – the Senate and the House of Representatives – by certifying the Electoral College votes and the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump.

"Congress confirms our great election victory – a great historic moment. MAGA!" Trump wrote on the Truth Social social network.

This was also the final stage of the electoral process before the presidential inauguration on January 20, as required by the US Constitution.

The congressional confirmation of the results occurs exactly on the fourth anniversary of the violent attack on the Capitol, the seat of US legislative power in Washington.

As a reminder, at that time, some of Trump's supporters protested against unfounded claims of irregularities that, they believed, led to their defeat by outgoing President Joe Biden in 2020.

Claims of irregularities were rejected by judicial bodies across the country.

Ahead of the congressional session, Vice President Harris described the confirmation of election results as a sacred duty she would fulfill.

"Led by love for the country, the Constitution, and the unwavering belief in the American people," Harris said in a video message released by ABC News.

Outgoing President Biden stated that the January 6 attack should not be forgotten, but that a peaceful transition of power is necessary.
