(Patria) - The House of Representatives has voted to approve a resolution calling for the removal of outgoing US President Donald Trump from office via the 25th Amendment. Everything is happening after the riots in the Capitol caused by Trump's supporters last week.
The approved resolution, explained by Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, calls on Vice President Mike Pence to "immediately use his powers under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, which involves convening and mobilizing the executive branch to confirm that Trump is no longer able to successfully perform the duties of his office as President.".
Pence had previously refused the call to use the 25th Amendment in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
This resolution is essentially a form of rebuke to Trump, as many lawmakers are furious following the attack on the Capitol, which stemmed from distrust and a desire to overturn the US elections.
This move by the House of Representatives comes at a time when Democrats are preparing for Trump's impeachment, which is actually the result of a rebellion against the outgoing US President. Trump has been claiming all along that he was robbed in the elections, calling on his supporters to support him.
Democrats plan to vote on Trump's impeachment today, a week after his supporters stormed the Capitol, destroyed public property, and endangered lives, CNN writes.
In addition to Democrats, Republicans have also accepted Trump's impeachment.
