(Patria) - The US House of Representatives voted tonight to impeach the current US President Donald Trump. The final word on Trump's potential removal will have to be said by the US Senate at a session to be held in January 2020.
Trump's impeachment was voted on after a very long session, but it is important to emphasize that this does not mean Donald Trump will be removed from office.
The US Senate will have to have the final say on Trump's potential removal. This is the third time in US history that Congress has voted to impeach a president, and it is now officially initiated against Trump, N1 reports.
Before Trump, Andrew Johnson (1868) and Bill Clinton (1998) were impeached, but the Senate rejected the charges in both cases. Richard Nixon resigned from office in 1974 before he was impeached.
Otherwise, the vote for Trump's impeachment was held on two articles of impeachment, namely abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
