Amendments to the Police Law Finally Adopted, New Officers to Be Recruited Soon

(Patria) - At the session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, proposals for amendments to the Law on Police Officers and the Law on Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton were adopted under an urgent procedure. With 31 votes in favor, the deputies unanimously adopted the amendments and additions to the Law under an urgent procedure. These amendments were necessary to adopt because there was no possibility of hiring new police officers. The procedure for recruiting 330 new members of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs will now commence.

In his opening address, the Minister of Internal Affairs Ismir Jusko stated that the currently valid Law on Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton had shown certain shortcomings and gaps in its application.

"As the proposed amendments are not extensive and are not fundamental changes, it was proposed that they be adopted under an urgent procedure in order to be more effective. We want to address the significant shortage of police officers, which currently stands at around 330 according to the staffing plan. It was initiated to proceed under an urgent procedure," said the Minister of Internal Affairs Ismir Jusko.

Aljoša Čampara stated that these amendments to the law could have been adopted three months ago, but due to the positions of certain deputies, this was unnecessarily prolonged.
