Željko Komšić, president of the Democratic Front and a member of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament, commented on the fact that the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) will not be considered today at the session of the BiH Presidency, but also on the statements of Bakir Izetbegović, the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, who said they do not want to outvote Mladen Ivanić, reports Patria.
- There is no outvoting, because when you consider the constitutional competencies of the Presidency, this is a matter of foreign policy, meaning a decision must be made by consensus, and outvoting means nothing. This is something that requires consensus; foreign policy and defense are two matters that are original competencies of the BiH Presidency and must be resolved by consensus – says Komšić.
He further pointed out that he believes all the arguments presented by different sides are just part of the election campaign, but unfortunately, to the detriment of BiH.
- Regarding what they are doing with the SAA, everyone has their own arguments, and I fear that no matter how much they seek grounds for their arguments – Ivanić for his, Izetbegović for his, Čović for his – it has nothing to do with what they are saying, because this is about the election campaign, and now any issue that comes on the agenda can be jeopardized due to the election campaign. On the principle of 'we don't care what damage occurs, what matters is how we are perceived as fighters for the interests of Republika Srpska, for Bosniaks, Croats... Our standard story.' Of course, the situation with the SAA is specific, especially after the United Kingdom's exit from the EU, but no one is talking about that. No one is even trying to think about how Europe will now view BiH and the entire region in terms of EU accession; no one is dealing with that – says Komšić.
The DF leader points out that the SAA is not the first issue to cause problems.
- You will see, the NATO Summit is coming. A similar situation will occur; the registration of prospective military property has stalled; I don't believe the defense review will be adopted either. Everyone will go to Angela Merkel in Berlin, bow their heads, and say, 'Yes, Ms. Merkel, thank you for your support.' She will expect some results, but there will be none, and we will not get candidate status – states Komšić.
