Komšić: NATO referendum should be organized at BiH level, RS cannot decide on this alone

Regarding the announcement by veteran organizations from the smaller BiH entity about organizing a referendum where citizens would vote on military property, which would also be an answer from RS on whether it wants BiH in NATO or not, Željko Komšić, Member of Parliament and President of DF, says that there is no basis for such a thing and they do not have the right to do so.

- The issue concerns the entire BiH and all of us, so only the right of all citizens of BiH to a referendum can be discussed, not the right of one part of the country or a part of the citizens. One part of BiH cannot make a decision that applies to the entire country by its own decision-making, Komšić told Patria, adding:

- When we talk about BiH joining NATO, then a referendum can be organized throughout BiH, of course, if the state Parliament makes such a decision. There are no special legal provisions for such a way of voting, but, as I said, the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH has the possibility to make such a decision, even a special law on referendums or referendums, Komšić notes.

The Republican Organization of Families of Captured, Fallen Soldiers and Missing Persons believes that it is unacceptable for RS to register 23 prospective military locations in this entity to the Ministry of Defense of BiH. They emphasize that the value of only one of the 23 locations is equal to the cost of organizing a referendum.

The eventual referendum question would be: "Do you support the registration of 23 prospective military locations in the RS to the Ministry of Defense of BiH?".

This move by veteran associations comes after a months-long campaign by SNSD leader Milorad Dodik, who repeatedly announced the organization of a referendum in RS on NATO.

In this context, the statement of Borislav Bojić, a member of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of BiH, should also be considered, who yesterday stated that RS will not give up its military property, and when it comes to BiH joining NATO, he was more than clear:

- The issue of joining NATO without Serbia is completely unacceptable for the Serbian people!

The proposal of veteran associations from RS was also supported today, as expected, by Prime Minister Željka Cvijanović.
