Komšić receives credentials from Head of EU Delegation Johann Sattler

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Chairman of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić received the credentials of the newly appointed Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Johann Sattler. Presenting his credentials in his inaugural speech, the newly appointed Ambassador Sattler said he looks forward to working with the BiH Presidency, as well as with other levels of government in the country, in supporting reform efforts that will bring BiH closer to EU standards, because he strongly believes that the EU is not complete without BiH and other countries in our region. He sees Bosnia and Herzegovina as a place of great importance for European history and its cultural heritage, and believes that BiH can and will join the European Union, and exactly when that happens depends on how quickly and effectively BiH authorities implement the necessary reforms, it was announced from the BiH Presidency.

The newly appointed Ambassador Sattler emphasized that the European Union is much more than a single market; it is, above all, a union based on principles, values, and standards.

“The EU represents a vision of peace and prosperity for European countries. We are a union of democracies, with established respect for human rights and the rule of law,” said Ambassador Sattler.

In this context, he stressed that any country aspiring to full membership in the EU must respect these values and ensure the equality of all its citizens. Ambassador Settler is sure that the citizens of BiH want the same, and that much work lies ahead for this to be realized, for which he is ready, with the aim of assisting BiH authorities.

Upon receiving the credentials, the Chairman of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić expressed gratitude for the overall continuous support and assistance of the European Union on our EU path, and wished the newly appointed ambassador a successful mandate in our country. Chairman Komšić and Ambassador Settler agreed that the priorities in the steps leading to our country's membership in the EU for the next period must be guided by the implementation of measures and recommendations from the EC Opinion on BiH's application for EU membership from May this year.
