Komšić: Brussels is not a place to complain about each other

Željko Komšić, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated after a meeting in Brussels that the capital of the European Union is "not a place where leaders will complain about each other, but a place where all differences, political and human, should be put aside". He made it clear, as he said, that political concepts clash in BiH - but that citizens in BiH "do not suffer because of it".

Addressing the media, he said that this visit should be seen as a continuation of previous ones, and that the talks were in line with previous ones.

"Today, as then, we acted quite unitedly, we put aside all our differences, political and human," he said.

He stated that Brussels sees BiH as part of the region, and that the entire region is a "package in progress towards the European Union".

"Each country has a different pace. BiH's goal is to reach the EU. That's why we are talking about candidate status, it's an opportunity, but not a guarantee," he added.

He said that the priority would be to work on the 14 recommendations of the European Commission, but that some things are difficult to do in a short period of time.

"If we could, we would be a member or at the door of the EU today," he said.

Komšić emphasized that Brussels does not have a bureaucratic approach towards BiH, but a fair stance - with a good wish and intention to "push BiH towards the EU".

Some of the recommendations can be completed in a short period, while others will take time - emphasized the member of the BiH Presidency.

"All points that involve amending the BiH Constitution are not administrative moves, but political and social circumstances. They appeal to us to be reasonable, to seize the opportunities offered to us. We are ready to address the issues," he assessed.

The message from Brussels to the members of the Presidency is that their authority can accelerate processes in BiH, Komšić said, among other things.

"Everything is possible if you want it and are willing. If you are ready not only to work, but also to listen to someone who thinks differently, in order to achieve results and agreements," he said and conveyed the message from the meeting:

"BiH is not the worst in Europe, worse things have happened in the EU, and you see where we are today."

Peace, economic progress, and social prosperity are what should guide BiH - Komšić emphasized.

"Political concepts clash here. Citizens do not suffer because of me. Regarding what is being presented to BiH, I personally would like the 14 priorities to have been realized yesterday. Especially the constitutional amendments and the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights. But it is a process. And you see how it unfolds in election cycles. A concept that I think is wrong gets the most votes. I can complain about that, I can work to change awareness and explain to people that this is a better approach. Many do not respect what I say - I respect what they say," he stated.

Mistakes exist, he stated, but Komšić said he does not want to use Brussels to complain.

"When we return to BiH, I will say who is to blame, but I haven't hinted at who is to blame. It's not good to leave such an impression here" - concluded Željko Komšić, reports N1.
