Komšić: NATO and EU should support forces advocating a civic model in BiH

On the occasion of the meeting of foreign ministers of the 29 member states of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), held in Brussels, and the postponement of the activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP) for BiH in NATO, the President of the Democratic Front, Željko Komšić, reacted.

- Today it became completely clear that NATO will not yield even a second on the issue of fulfilling the conditions from Tallinn, which is the registration of property. Today's difficult but honest decision that the MAP will not be activated clearly indicates a lack of dynamics in the implementation of reforms. I recall that during the DF's participation in government, 24 locations were registered, out of a total of 31 that exist today, which speaks to the weakness of the Council of Ministers' work in this combination. Time is ticking, and I fear it is ticking in favor of the enemies of this country, said Komšić.

He added that certain deadlines are approaching, and that the will of the European Union and the United States of America to resolve two fundamental issues has been expressed – the continuation of the NATO path and the amendment of the Election Law.

- In this regard, I recall the strong connection between these issues. It is known who is the main culprit in the RS for blocking the registration of property, and it is also known who supports him in defending Russian anti-NATO interests in the Federation. These two options are now trying, through amendments to the Election Law, to deepen the ethnic and entity principle, which are the main reason for and through which they block EU and NATO integration, said Komšić.

He also added that our international friends from the EU and NATO have recognized Russian influence in those structures in time, which is important, but to make a step forward, things need to be clear.

- Ethnic blockades and entity voting are the main obstacle to the NATO path. It is necessary for NATO and the EU, in addition to existing support, to provide even greater support to forces advocating a civic model in BiH, because that is the only way to accelerate BiH's Euro-Atlantic path. Russia and HDZ-SNSD are working together, and their plans to dismantle BiH's NATO path can only be prevented by joint determination. The essence of NATO is alliance and defense of the values of the free world, and BiH neither asks for more nor deserves less, concluded Komšić.
