Company 'Novacyt' produced a test that distinguishes corona and flu

(Patria) - Clinical diagnostics company "Novacyt" has launched a test that distinguishes COVID-19 from flu.

The company announced that the "Winterplex" test recognizes two genes specific to COVID-19, as well as genes that detect influenza A and B, and respiratory syncytial virus RSV.

"We believe Winterplex is the first approved test that distinguishes COVID-19 from common respiratory illnesses," said Novacyt CEO Graham Mullis.

The new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is one of many PCR-type products already on the market that diagnose the presence of COVID-19.

PCR is the main testing method in many countries. It detects the disease by amplifying genetic material to a point where scientists can detect it.
