Comedian Zelensky new president of Ukraine

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Volodymyr Zelensky, a Ukrainian comedian who plays the president in a series, won the presidential elections in that country yesterday.

According to preliminary results, Zelensky won 73 percent of the votes, and Poroshenko 25 percent.

The new president of Ukraine was also fined a small amount on Sunday for publicly showing his ballot, his campaign manager said.

Showing a ballot is an offense in Ukraine, and the rule protects voting anonymity.

"Everyone must respect the law," campaign manager Dmytro Razumkov said in a statement that included a photo of the candidate with a police officer writing the fine.

The amount of the fine was not disclosed, but it is estimated to be no more than thirty dollars.

Zelensky took advantage of public anti-government sentiment, running an unusual campaign full of jokes, comedy performances, and clever social media posts, where he has millions of followers.

Poroshenko admitted the victory of comedian Volodymyr Zelensky in the second round of the presidential elections last night, and will hand over presidential duties to Zelensky next month.
