Drug found in arrested young man's car and during search of his residence, handed over to the Cantonal Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office

(Patria) - The Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton has issued a statement regarding yesterday's arrest of a 28-year-old man in whose possession multiple types of drugs were found.

"Police officers of the Traffic Unit, during the implementation of planned activities for traffic security of a peaceful public gathering, on February 18, 2026, at around 1:10 PM, stopped a motor vehicle 'Škoda' in Hamze Hume Street, which had previously been moving along Marshal Tito Street from an unauthorized direction, on a section of road where traffic in that direction was prohibited, during which the driver did not comply with the orders and signals of police officers issued during traffic regulation, who were on the roadway and beside the roadway, in visible police uniforms.

The driver was identified as I.K. (born 1998) from Sarajevo, who at that time was driving the vehicle while under a previously imposed protective measure banning him from driving a motor vehicle.

Police officers of the Department for Combating Drug Abuse, during a personal search of I.K., found a certain amount of substance that by its appearance resembles the drug amphetamine. After obtaining oral orders for a search, inside the vehicle at the scene, more than 50 different packages were found containing substances resembling various drugs: so-called 'magic mushrooms' (about 330 grams), marijuana (about 640 grams), speed (about 98 grams), cocaine (about 25 grams), MDMA (about 8.5 grams), and three 'blotters' of LSD.

Police officers of the Department for Combating Drug Abuse also conducted a search of the suspect's residential premises in the Novo Sarajevo municipality, during which a certain amount of substances resembling cocaine and marijuana were found, as well as 263 pieces of rifle ammunition.

Due to reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offenses of Unauthorized Production and Placing on the Market of Narcotic Drugs, Preventing an Official Person from Performing an Official Duty, and Unauthorized Possession of Weapons or Explosive Substances, I.K. (born 1998) was deprived of his liberty and handed over to the Detention Facilities for Persons Deprived of Liberty of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton, after which he will be handed over to the further jurisdiction of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo.

Given the fact that the named individual is a multiple recidivist in committing traffic violations, and that he was caught driving a vehicle while under an imposed protective measure banning him from driving a motor vehicle, police officers of the Traffic Unit temporarily confiscated the said motor vehicle from I.K. Also, the driver was tested for the presence of drugs, during which it was determined that he tested positive for psychoactive substances. Police officers of the Traffic Unit will submit a request to the Municipal Court in Sarajevo for initiating misdemeanor proceedings for traffic violations.

From the Prosecutor's Office of the Sarajevo Canton, it was stated that he has been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, and that he will be detained for 24 hours, and within that legal deadline, the acting prosecutor will decide on a possible proposal for detention.
