Who is hiding the truth about the murder of Dženan Memić: New protest gathering of Sarajevo citizens today

A little more than three months after the death of young Dženan Memić (22), who died under still unexplained circumstances on February 8 while walking with his girlfriend Alisa on Velika aleja in Ilidža, and passed away on February 15 at the UKCS, his family is still searching for the truth about how their son died, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Dissatisfied with the work of the MUP KS, the KS Prosecutor's Office, and the prosecutors working on the murder case of Dženan Memić, the family, friends, and citizens will hold peaceful protests today. The gathering is scheduled for 11:30 in front of the SCC, and at 11:55 those gathered will peacefully walk to the KS Prosecutor's Office, and then to the building of the Government of Sarajevo Canton.

We remind you that the KS Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation on March 7 against an unknown perpetrator for the criminal offense of murder, but to this day there has been no progress in the investigation.

The family will never give up

The first peaceful walk was held on April 8, two months after the attack on the unfortunate young man. The desperate family only wants to learn the truth about the events that led to the premature death of their son and brother. Dženan's father, Muriz Memić, said that this case must not be forgotten and that he wants those responsible for his son's death to be found.

The only witness to the fateful night is the girl Dženan was walking with, Alisa Mutap. During the investigation that was conducted and after the active involvement of the KS Prosecutor's Office, and in a letter that the chief prosecutor of KS, Dalida Burzić, sent to Dženan's parents, it was determined that one police officer from the MUP KS, who first spoke with Alisa Mutap, gave different statements on two occasions, and justified suspicion was expressed regarding the credibility of the testimony.

On April 4, 2016, Burzić requested from the commissioner of the MUP KS, Vahid Ćosić, to take concrete measures and actions aimed at investigating and possibly sanctioning such conduct by the authorized official.

Initiative in the KS Assembly

Segmedina Srna-Bajramović, a representative of the SDP BiH in the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, submitted an initiative demanding that the Assembly immediately form an assembly investigative commission to urgently examine the omissions in police conduct in the murder case of Dženan Memić.

- It is high time that the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton began to fully implement the laws it has adopted itself, and in favor of the citizens who elected us to represent their interests in this legislative body. The recent letter from the chief prosecutor of Sarajevo Canton, Dalida Burzić, addressed to the parents of the murdered Dženan Memić, once again confirmed what we all know, which is that there are serious problems in the work of institutions responsible for fighting crime in Sarajevo Canton.

Srna-Bajramović demands that the Security Commission of the Assembly, in accordance with its competencies established by the Law on Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, immediately proceed to appoint a special assembly investigative commission that would examine the actions and work of police officers in this case. Deputies in the Assembly have the possibility and an even greater obligation to act in such cases.

It is unacceptable that the KS Prosecutor's Office encounters obstructions within the police ranks in such cases.
