Who will be the Democratic presidential candidate: Joe Biden (still) in the lead

(Patria) - A new national poll shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading his competitors, but analyses of early voting states show two rivals trailing him closely.

Results of an ABC News/Washington Post poll released on Sunday show 27% in favor of Biden, while Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is second with 19% of the vote (a drop from July when he had 23% support), and Elizabeth Warren is in 3rd place with 17% support.

Support for California Senator Kamala Harris has fallen by 7% compared to July when it was 11%, while Pete Buttigieg from Indiana is in 5th place.

Sanders and Warren have closed in on Biden in the states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada. The only early result thanks to which Biden maintains dominance comes from South Carolina, with 43% compared to Sanders' 18% and Elizabeth Warren's 14%, which is a reflection of his strong support among the African American population.

The ABC News/Washington Post telephone poll was conducted from September 2nd to 5th, and was conducted in English and Spanish among a group of 1,003 US residents.
