Climate activists blocked roads across Germany

(Patria) - The climate activist group "Last Generation" protested again yesterday by blocking roads in several places in Germany, but this time the activists did not glue themselves to the asphalt.

Around 130 people blocked the Warschauer Bridge in Berlin at noon, police announced. They repeatedly sat down and got up from the asphalt, reports dpa, according to Hina.

In Munich and Regensburg, police counted 120 and 150 demonstrators, respectively, at reported and unreported gatherings. There were no major traffic problems in Munich.

Near the LNG terminal on the Baltic island of Rügen, 30 activists disrupted traffic on the access road to the Sassnitz ferry port.

Police initially allowed the protest but broke it up after a few hours.

A spokesperson for the activists said they intended to stay longer, perhaps until Sunday, emphasizing that they consider the terminal to be the "peak of fossil fuel madness".

There were also protests in the southwest of the country, in Freiburg and Karlsruhe, and at Stuttgart airport. However, they were peaceful.

In Bremen in the northwest of the country, about 100 climate activists occupied an intersection in the city center.

New blockades are also planned in Cologne in the west and Leipzig in the east of the country.

The Last Generation demands radical action against climate change, including a complete abandonment of fossil fuels.

They have been organizing blockades since the beginning of 2022. Activists often used to glue themselves to the asphalt, but recently they said they would no longer do so.
