(Patria) - The head of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiyev, and his Tajik counterpart, Saimumin Yatimov, signed a protocol in Bishkek on the delimitation of the shared section of the border, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan told TASS.
- The signing of the protocol on the delimitation of the border between the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan took place. Tashiyev signed the document on behalf of the Kyrgyz side, while Yatimov represented Tajikistan - said the spokesperson.
The border issue has caused multiple conflicts between the local population and the military on both sides, including the use of firearms, with the latest flaring up in the autumn of 2022.
Overall, since 2014, more than ten serious conflicts have erupted on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
Kyrgyzstan borders China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, with Tajikistan being the last neighboring state with which Kyrgyzstan had unresolved border issues.
