Chinese investors interested in Gacko thermal power plant, works could start next year

Head of the Chinese company Dongfang Electric's office for Central and Eastern Europe, Liang Yongbin, handed over a letter of intent today in Banja Luka to the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of the BiH entity RS, Petar Đokić, regarding cooperation in the realization of the project to build a new block of the Gacko Thermal Power Plant with an installed capacity of up to 350 MW, it was announced from the minister's cabinet, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Minister Đokić said that it is very important to have a partner in the realization of such significant projects in the power system who guarantees the quality and speed of thermal power plant construction and who has already successfully completed the construction of the Stanari Thermal Power Plant.

- At this moment, there is a strong interest and commitment from the Government of RS to build a new, modern thermal power plant in Gacko which, by applying the highest European standards regarding harmful gas emissions and energy efficiency, will significantly increase the volume of electricity produced, contribute to economic development and the creation of new jobs - said Đokić.

He added that the Government's goal is to start the realization of this extremely important project as early as next spring, which is why it is planned for the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of RS and Dongfang to be signed as early as the beginning of next month.

- I am convinced that through the cooperation of Dongfang, as one of the leading manufacturers of power generation equipment in the world and one of the leading international contractors in the energy sector, and our experts from the power system of RS, the construction of the new block of TE Gacko will begin soon - said Đokić.

Head of the Chinese company Dongfang Electric's office for Central and Eastern Europe, Liang Yongbin, emphasized the company's readiness to rapidly realize this project.

According to him, in addition to extensive experience in building thermal power plants, Dongfang's advantage, as a state-owned company, is the support of the Chinese Government and financial institutions that can offer the most favorable conditions for the realization of this and other projects in RS.
