Chinese President in Russia from May 7 to 10

(Patria) - Chinese President Xi Jinping will officially visit Russia from May 7 to 10, where he will attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany, the Kremlin announced today.

In a statement on Telegram, the Kremlin said that Xi will discuss the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the signing of a series of documents.

During the talks, key issues of further development of relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, as well as current international and regional issues, will be considered.

The Soviet Union lost 27 million people in World War II, but pushed back Nazi forces to Berlin, where Hitler committed suicide, and the red Soviet flag of victory was raised over the Reichstag in 1945.

The celebrations are expected to be attended by several other national leaders, including the presidents of Brazil and Serbia, and the prime minister of Slovakia.

Putin proposed a three-day ceasefire with Ukraine around the May 9 celebration, one of the most important holidays in the Russian calendar.

Responding to Moscow's offer of a three-day ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was ready as long as the ceasefire lasted 30 days, something Putin had already ruled out in the near future, saying he wanted a long-term solution, not a short break.

Zelensky said that Ukraine, given the continuation of the war with Russia, cannot guarantee the safety of any visiting dignitaries who come to Moscow for the traditional Victory Day parade on May 9.
