Kim Jong Un fiercely responded to Trump

North Korea will consider the possibility of taking "the highest level of sharp countermeasures in history" against the United States in response to the threat of American President Donald Trump of "total destruction", said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, world media reported, Patria agency reported.

The North Korean leader rarely appears in public, and in his latest statement, he said that the American president is "mentally deranged".

"President Trump's statements represent the fiercest declaration of war in history," said the North Korean leader, stating that Trump's speech on Tuesday at the United Nations confirmed that North Korea's nuclear program is the "right path".

The American president called the North Korean leader "Rocket Man" on a suicidal mission on Tuesday, and on Thursday ordered new sanctions against North Korea. However, this shifted the focus from possible military actions to economic pressure.

According to Trump's interpretation, this provides additional powers to take measures against companies and financial institutions that finance and facilitate trade with North Korea.

"These measures will cut off the sources of income with which North Korea finances the development of the deadliest weapons known to mankind," Trump claims.

Asked before a meeting with Japanese and South Korean officials whether a diplomatic solution to the problem was still possible, the American president nodded in confirmation and replied with a counter-question: "Why not?".

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged leaders not to rush into war, and South Korea, Russia, and China called for de-escalation of tensions. Pyongyang responded on Friday.

"His words did not scare me or stop me, but rather convinced me that the path I have chosen is the right one and that I must follow it to the very end," said Kim Jong Un.

"As a man representing the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and on behalf of the dignity and honor of my country and people, as well as my own, I will make the man holding the position of supreme commander of the US armed forces pay a high price for his speech. The American president will face 'results that will exceed his expectations,'" Kim said, without specifying what measures North Korea intends to take.

Journalists in New York asked the North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, who is scheduled to address the General Debate of the United Nations today, what Kim Jong Un meant by the threat of "the highest level of sharp countermeasures in history".

"North Korea could consider testing a hydrogen bomb. We have no idea what measures could be taken because the order will be issued by leader Kim Jong Un. It could be the most powerful detonation of a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific," added Ri Yong Ho.
