(Patria) - East African regional forces have begun to withdraw from the troubled eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the BBC reported.
Soldiers were first deployed in the region last November at the request of the Congolese government in the hope of curbing the resurgent M23 rebel group.
But Kinshasa has since criticized the East African forces as ineffective and refused to renew their mandate.
Two contingents of about 100 Kenyan soldiers left Goma airport, the capital of North Kivu province, early on Sunday.
General elections in the DR Congo are scheduled for December 20.
