Kenan Musić resigns to Reis Kavazović: Persecution, discreditation, lies

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Chief Imam of the Islamic Community Council Sarajevo, hafiz Kenan Musić, today submitted his resignation to the Reis-ul-ulema Husein-ef. Kavazović, Musić announced on his official Facebook page.

In explaining his resignation, Musić stated that the previous two years of his mandate were marked by continuous obstructions and blockades in carrying out the trust entrusted to the chief imam, the inability to positively influence the selection of the best and most capable imams to lead the communities, denial of access to basic elements of financial and waqf processes, and constant lies and insinuations aimed at discrediting me and the people I cooperate with.

"These manipulations aim to sow discord among communities and imams for the sake of achieving short-term petty interests, without considering the long-term consequences for our community. Taking into account all circumstances, and despite my great desire and effort for things in the Council to move in the right direction, I believe I have no rational prospect of changing the situation for the better in the Council.

The last straw was the implementation of an organized campaign of persecution and horrific mobbing of all dissenters through the most rigid totalitarian forms of revenge, rehabilitation of verbal offenses, and incrimination of free thought, which is being carried out against honest and valuable people from the communities and imams who bear the greatest burden of organizing and operating the Islamic Community. My efforts to institutionally protect these honest people unfortunately did not yield results, so my resignation can be treated as another call to all believers to protect the right to freedom of thought and action for which we paid the price with the blood of our martyrs in the recent past.

I will continue to work, as much as the Creator gives me strength, for the good of the faith, homeland, community, and people to whom I belong," Musić stated in his address.
