(Patria) - Kazakhstan has offered to take over Iranian uranium reserves if the United States and Iran reach an agreement on Tehran's controversial nuclear program, the head of the UN nuclear safety body (IAEA) Rafael Grossi told the Financial Times on Friday, AFP reported.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency met with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana this week.
The Financial Times stated that the Kazakh leader expressed his country's "openness" to storing reserves enriched to weapons-grade levels.
An estimated 440 kilograms of uranium processed to 60 percent purity is at the center of talks between the United States and Iran on extending the ceasefire in the war launched by attacks from the US and Israel.
US President Donald Trump insisted that Iran must accept that it will not have nuclear weapons and that the uranium must be destroyed. Iran insisted on its right to maintain its nuclear program.
