Qatari State Minister Lolwah Rashid al-Khater to attend the 29th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide

(Patria) - State Minister for International Cooperation Lolwah Rashid al-Khater will pay a multi-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina next week, during which she will also attend the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the United Nations Safe Area of Srebrenica and the burial of identified innocent victims from July 1995.

During her visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister al-Khater will hold a series of meetings and participate in events from which important messages will be sent in a broader international context.

This significant visit by the high-ranking official comes after official Doha voted on May 23, 2024, in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly for the Resolution entitled International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide Committed in Srebrenica in 1995.

Alongside Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar is one of the countries of the Arab and Islamic world that strongly and selflessly supported the said Resolution with the intention of permanently preserving the world's memory of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica in July 1995, in order to prevent such events in the future.

Minister al-Khater, who is also the first woman to serve as spokesperson for her country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was among the high officials of the State of Qatar who in November 2023 helped evacuate citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Gaza Strip under Israeli occupation.

As a minister of the State of Qatar, she is strongly engaged in providing aid to Palestinians in Gaza, seeking a peaceful solution for the endangered enclave and de-escalation in the Middle East, as well as a permanent resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Among other things, at the end of last year, at the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva, on behalf of her country, she announced an initial aid package of 50 million dollars for the Gaza Strip, in response to the growing humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories.
