Karkin: I expect the Supreme Court to confirm the acquittal

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Defense attorney for Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, Rusmir Karkin, said after the acquittal of his clients that this case is a specific matter that will certainly be recorded in the anthology of Bosnian judiciary.

"This is the first case where even the victim's family had a great interest in helping the defense because from the very beginning we claimed that a traffic accident did not occur. The Cantonal Court, thank God, had enough strength and personal integrity of the judges to deliver the only possible verdict, which is to acquit people who were falsely accused of a crime they did not commit," Karkin said.

He also expressed the expectation that the proceedings will not last much longer.

"I highly doubt that this proceeding will last much longer. I believe that the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will make a decision in the next few months. It is very tricky for lawyers, prosecutors, or those of us participating in it to predict the outcome of a court proceeding, but I am personally convinced that the only possible verdict of the Supreme Court on the appeal of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office is that the acquittal of the Cantonal Court will be confirmed," Karkin concluded.

Incidentally, the Cantonal Court stated in its verdict that it fully accepted the findings of the traffic expert examination and the supplementary medical expert examination by the Center for Expertise and Assessment Zenit from Banja Luka, which determined that a traffic accident did not occur and that Dženan Memić's injuries were not the result of a vehicle impact but rather a blow to the head with a blunt object.
