Karić: BiH has no effective prosecution service

The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH has experienced a total collapse. The House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament yesterday did not adopt the HJPC's report for 2014.

Representatives assessed it as unacceptable that some prosecutors are under political influence and that the HJPC itself must ensure the professional work of prosecutors in BiH, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

There is a criminal complaint filed against the HJPC president Milan Tegeltija with the BiH Prosecutor's Office, because he did not ensure a fair trial in the case of property confiscation from Dževad Haznadar in Banja Luka, at a time when Tegeltija was the president of the Basic Court in Banja Luka.

Due to this case, a criminal complaint was also filed with the BiH Prosecutor's Office against the chief disciplinary prosecutor Arben Murtezić, because when Tegeltija was elected president of the HJPC in 2014, he concealed that there was a criminal complaint against Tegeltija with the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

The director of the Anti-Corruption Network of Civil Society Organizations in BiH (ACOOUNT) Elvin Karić told Patria that all parameters indicate that Bosnia and Herzegovina does not have an effective prosecution service, and that this must be addressed as soon as possible.

- The essence is that the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has no strategy, no goal, and no responsibility towards its work – warned Karić, noting that without an effective prosecution service, there is no fight against corruption, which is the cancer of every society.
