Karadžić wants to serve sentence in Swedish prison

Radovan Karadžić will request to serve his 40-year prison sentence in Sweden, Patria learns.

It is evident that all the benefits of Swedish prisons were described to him by Biljana Plavšić, who was housed in a semi-open Swedish detention facility. Biljana Plavšić is the only woman convicted by the Hague Tribunal for crimes against humanity, and she served her sentence at the Hinsenberg women's prison in the Swedish city of Örebro from June 2003. She was released in October 2009, after serving a little more than 6 years of her sentence.

Even in tolerant Great Britain, wearing prison uniforms is mandatory, and if inmates misbehave, they are banned from reading books, and in facilities housing younger offenders, lights are turned off as early as 10:30 PM. This is unthinkable in Sweden. Prisons in Sweden grant complete freedom except for movement.

The only question is whether Sweden will accept the first political leader convicted of genocide since the Nuremberg trials of Nazis.
