Former President of Republika Srpska Radovan Karadžić was found guilty yesterday before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague of genocide in Srebrenica and other war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and was sentenced to 40 years in prison, reports the Patria news agency.
The Trial Chamber found him guilty of genocide in Srebrenica and the multi-year terrorization of Sarajevo, as well as taking UN personnel hostage. The court established that there was a plan by participants in a joint criminal enterprise to eliminate the population of Srebrenica through the forced displacement of women, children, and elderly men, and the physical elimination of men, which reached the scale of genocide.
During the reading of the verdict, his face was icy, and in his first statement after it, he compared Bosniaks to terrorists.
"Does Europe, after Paris and Brussels, not know who we were fighting against?" reports Belgrade's Večernje novosti.
