This year in October marks exactly 25 years since the sinister threats of the wartime leader of Bosnian Serbs, and today Hague indictee Radovan Karadžić in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina that the country would end up in hell, and the Muslim people would disappear, because "the Muslim people cannot defend themselves if there is a war here", writes the Patria news agency.
It was the first time that genocide against Bosniaks was unambiguously announced on the public stage if they sought the sovereignty and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Yugoslavia, which, under the leadership of Slobodan Milošević, was supposed to transform into a "Greater Serbia".
Karadžić's threat ultimately came true
The first president of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the late Alija Izetbegović, reacted decisively to Karadžić's open threats, announcing that "we may no longer want to be in Yugoslavia".
- His presentation. His way of presenting his message perhaps best explains why we may no longer want to remain in Yugoslavia. I am saying this here tonight. Something else. His way of presentation, his messages perhaps best explain why others do not want to remain in that Yugoslavia either. Nobody wants such a Yugoslavia anymore. Perhaps only the Serbian people want it. Such a Yugoslavia has been simply hated in the eyes of the Yugoslav peoples, Slovenes, Croats, Macedonians, Albanians, Hungarians, Muslims... as well as in the eyes of Europe and the world. Such methods as Karadžić uses - emphasized the late Izetbegović.
Tomorrow, the verdict against Karadžić will be delivered before the Hague Tribunal. He is accused on 11 counts for genocide and persecution in Bosnian municipalities in 1992, terror against Sarajevo civilians (1992-1995), genocide in Srebrenica in 1995, and taking United Nations international observers hostage.
