Canadian Prime Minister Condemns Israel's 'Illegal Invasion' of Lebanon

(Patria) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has condemned Israel's deployment of troops in Lebanon as an "illegal invasion" that violates its "integrity and sovereignty," AFP reported.
"The Lebanese government has banned Hezbollah, is taking measures, is trying to take measures against Hezbollah and their terrorist activities and their threats to Israel, and that is supposedly the justification for this invasion," Carney said. "So, we condemn that," he said.
Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, has drawn Lebanon into a war by launching attacks on Israel to avenge the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Israel has responded with widespread strikes across Lebanon and a ground offensive.
Carney's comments came as the United Nations Security Council was set to hold an emergency meeting over the recent deaths of three UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, possibly from Israeli fire.
The UN's humanitarian chief has warned that southern Lebanon could become another occupied territory in the Middle East after Israel reiterated threats to occupy the area after the war with Hezbollah.
Lebanese authorities say more than 1,200 people have been killed since the start of hostilities.
