Canadian police prevent mass murder on Valentine's Day

Canadian police prevented a plan by two young people to open fire on passers-by in Halifax, Nova Scotia, eastern Canada, on Valentine's Day. The massacre was planned for Saturday in a public place in that city on the Canadian Atlantic coast, and was to be carried out by a 19-year-old Canadian and a 23-year-old American woman who then intended to kill themselves.

The young American woman from Geneva, Illinois, in the United States, and the young man from Timberlea, a suburb west of Halifax, "planned to go to a public place (...), open fire on passers-by, and then kill themselves," reports the RCMP.

During the investigation, police located the Canadian man during the night on Friday in a house where he was found dead, the RCMP added, without specifying whether the suspect was hit in an exchange of fire with the police or killed himself.

Half an hour later, police arrested the 23-year-old American woman on her way to Halifax airport, accompanied by a twenty-year-old man. Then, on Friday around 11:00 AM in Cole Harbour, south of Halifax, a 17-year-old was arrested in connection with the planning of this massacre, investigators said.
